When Was the Last Time You Looked Under the Hood?
A recent CBS News segment caught my attention, and if you’re in the restaurant business, it should probably catch yours too.
More than 7,500 restaurant locations closed across the country in the first six months of 2026. The CBS News report pointed to rising costs and declining sales as major pressures facing restaurant operators. [cbsnews.com] https://youtu.be/Ck2OlqZQSHI?si=QbtpbEZMEXu3CLgF
Those are sobering numbers.
Restaurant operators are being squeezed from both directions. Costs are up, customers are watching what they spend, and there’s only so much you can raise menu prices before you risk losing traffic.
So where else do you look?
Sometimes the answer is already inside your business.
Most operators work hard to control costs, but when you’re dealing with hundreds or thousands of products, multiple vendors, distributor agreements, freight, rebates, pricing structures and constantly changing costs, it can be very difficult to know whether you’re truly getting the best deal.
That’s where a second set of eyes can make a difference.
Think about it like taking your car to a trusted mechanic. You may not know that anything is wrong. You simply want someone who knows what to look for to get under the hood and take a look.
That’s essentially what Strategic Supply Chain Partners (SSCP) does.
We look at what you’re buying, what you’re paying, how your purchasing program is structured, and where there may be opportunities to reduce costs or improve your overall supply chain.
And here’s the best part:
There is no cost to look under the hood.
SSCP works on a contingency basis. There’s no upfront consulting fee for us to take an initial look and determine whether an opportunity exists.
Our goal isn’t to change vendors just for the sake of changing vendors. If something is working well, we’ll tell you.
But if there are opportunities to save money, improve purchasing, or strengthen your supplier relationships, wouldn’t you want to know?
The restaurant business has always been difficult. Today’s environment makes protecting every dollar even more important.
You may not need to overhaul your operation. You may just need someone to look under the hood.
If you’re a restaurant operator and would like SSCP to take a look, let’s have a conversation.
